88 AN ACT
99 relating to the distribution of funds designated for the low-income
1010 vehicle repair assistance, retrofit, and accelerated vehicle
1111 retirement program.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 382, Health and Safety
1414 Code, is amended by adding Section 382.221 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 382.221. DISTRIBUTION OF LOW-INCOME VEHICLE REPAIR
1616 ASSISTANCE, RETROFIT, AND ACCELERATED VEHICLE RETIREMENT PROGRAM
1717 FUNDS. (a) This section applies only to a county that:
1818 (1) is or was a participating county; and
1919 (2) has remitted to the state fees collected for the
2020 low-income vehicle repair assistance, retrofit, and accelerated
2121 vehicle retirement program.
2222 (b) Notwithstanding Sections 382.202(g), 382.209, and
2323 382.220, not later than January 1, 2026, the commission shall
2424 distribute to the counties described by Subsection (a) all
2525 available money collected before September 1, 2025, under Section
2626 382.202(e) or 382.302 that was designated for the low-income
2727 vehicle repair assistance, retrofit, and accelerated vehicle
2828 retirement program and is appropriated by the legislature for the
2929 purposes described by this subsection.
3030 (c) The commission shall distribute the money in reasonable
3131 proportion to the amount of fees collected under Section 382.202(e)
3232 or 382.302 in those counties or in the regions in which those
3333 counties are located.
3434 (d) A county that receives money under this section may use
3535 the money only to fund a program authorized by Section 382.220(b).
3636 (e) This section expires September 1, 2029.
3737 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
