| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CERTAIN CAMPAIGN |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) In this section, "candidate for statewide |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | office" does not include a candidate for statewide judicial office, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | as defined by Section 253.152. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) A person may not knowingly make or authorize the making |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of a campaign contribution to a candidate for statewide office or |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, for the primary or |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | general election in which the candidate is involved in an amount |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | that exceeds 50 times the amount of the contribution limits for an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | election applicable to a federal candidate under the Federal |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Election Campaign Act of 1971 (52 U.S.C. Section 30101 et seq.). |

| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Section 253.008, Election Code, as added by this |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Act, applies only to a campaign contribution made on or after the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | effective date of this Act. A campaign contribution made before the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | date the contribution was made, and the contribution is not |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | aggregated with campaign contributions made on or after that date. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
