99 relating to campaign contribution limits for certain offices.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CERTAIN CAMPAIGN
1414 CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) In this section, "candidate for statewide
1515 office" does not include a candidate for statewide judicial office,
1616 as defined by Section 253.152.
1717 (b) A person may not knowingly make or authorize the making
1818 of a campaign contribution to a candidate for statewide office or
1919 the legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the
2020 candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, for the primary or
2121 general election in which the candidate is involved in an amount
2222 that exceeds 50 times the amount of the contribution limits for an
2323 election applicable to a federal candidate under the Federal
2424 Election Campaign Act of 1971 (52 U.S.C. Section 30101 et seq.).
2525 SECTION 2. Section 253.008, Election Code, as added by this
2626 Act, applies only to a campaign contribution made on or after the
2727 effective date of this Act. A campaign contribution made before the
2828 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
2929 date the contribution was made, and the contribution is not
3030 aggregated with campaign contributions made on or after that date.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
