67 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
78 AN ACT
89 relating to the prohibited release of personal information
910 collected during the jury selection process.
1011 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1112 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 62, Government Code, is
1213 amended by adding Section 62.022 to read as follows:
1314 Sec. 62.022. PERSONAL INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL. (a)
1415 Except as provided by Subsection (b), personal information
1516 collected by the court, a party, or a party's attorney during the
1617 jury selection process about a person who reports for jury duty is
1718 confidential and may not be disclosed by the court, a party, a
1819 party's attorney, or any court personnel. Information considered
1920 confidential under this subsection includes:
2021 (1) a person's:
2122 (A) home address;
2223 (B) telephone number;
2324 (C) social security number; and
2425 (D) driver's license number;
2526 (2) information provided in the juror questionnaire
2627 required by Section 62.0132; and
2728 (3) any other personal information.
2829 (b) The court may authorize the disclosure of information
2930 described by Subsection (a) only on submission of an application to
3031 the court showing good cause for the disclosure by:
3132 (1) a party to the proceeding; or
3233 (2) a person acting in the actual discharge of the
3334 person's duties as a member of the news media.
3435 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
3536 to a person who reports for jury duty on or after the effective date
3637 of this Act.
3738 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
