| 9 | 9 | | relating to the issuance of a license to carry a handgun to certain |

| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 411.201(a)(3), Government Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (3) "Retired judicial officer" means: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (A) a visiting judge appointed under Section |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 26.023 or 26.024; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (B) a senior judge designated under Section |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 75.001 or a judicial officer as designated or defined by Section |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 75.001, 831.001, or 836.001; [or] |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (C) a retired federal judge who is a resident of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | this state; or |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (D) a retired judge of a constitutional county |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | court or statutory county court who served at least 48 months in a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | constitutional county court or statutory county court. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to an application for a license to carry a handgun submitted on or |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | after the effective date of this Act. An application submitted |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | effect on the date the application was submitted, and the former law |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
