| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "classroom teacher" means |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | an educator who, not less than an average of four hours each day, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | teaches in an academic instructional setting or a career and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | technology instructional setting. The term does not include a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | teacher's aide or a full-time administrator. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) Each classroom teacher employed by a school district or |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | open-enrollment charter school on September 1, 2025, is entitled to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a bonus payment in addition to the teacher's compensation for the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 2025-2026 school year in an amount equal to $12,000. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (c) An amount necessary to provide the bonus payment to each |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | eligible classroom teacher under Subsection (b) of this section is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | appropriated from the general revenue fund to the Texas Education |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Agency for the state fiscal year beginning September 1, 2025, for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | distribution to school districts and open-enrollment charter |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | schools on the basis of the number of classroom teachers employed by |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | each district or school on September 1, 2025. The agency shall |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | distribute the money appropriated under this section as soon as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | practicable after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (d) A school district or open-enrollment charter school may |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | use money distributed under Subsection (c) of this section only to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provide a bonus payment to each classroom teacher employed by the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | district or school for the 2025-2026 school year in accordance with |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Subsection (b) of this section. The district or school shall |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | provide the bonus payment to each teacher in 12 equal monthly |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | installments. |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
