77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to creating a database of the firefighting equipment in
1010 the state available for use in responding to wildfires.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
12- SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 88, Education Code, is
13- amended by adding Section 88.1255 to read as follows:
14- Sec. 88.1255. STATEWIDE DATABASE OF FIREFIGHTING
15- EQUIPMENT. (a) In this section, "fire department" means:
16- (1) a volunteer fire department; or
17- (2) a department of a municipality, county, or special
18- district or authority that provides firefighting services.
19- (b) The Texas Forest Service shall create and maintain a

18+ Sec. 418.059. STATEWIDE DATABASE OF FIREFIGHTING
19+ EQUIPMENT. (a) The forest service shall create and maintain a
2020 comprehensive database that shows in real time the statewide
2121 inventory of firefighting equipment that is available for use in
2222 responding to wildfires.

2626 responding to wildfires;
2727 (2) include contact information for the fire
2828 department that has the equipment;
2929 (3) be searchable by location and equipment type; and
3030 (4) be accessible by all fire departments in the state
3131 and allow each fire department to update the information in the
3232 database regarding the equipment the fire department has available.
33- (d) The Texas Forest Service shall assist a fire department
34- that provides equipment information to the database in updating the
35- database annually or as soon as practicable after any change in the
36- availability of the department's firefighting equipment. The Texas
37- Forest Service shall use an electronic notification system to
38- remind fire departments, at least once each calendar year, to
39- update the availability of the department's firefighting
40- equipment.
41- SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
33+ (c) The forest service may assist fire departments who
34+ choose to provide equipment information in updating the database
35+ annually or as soon as practicable after any change in the
36+ availability of the department's firefighting equipment.
37+ (d) In this section, "fire department" includes a volunteer
38+ fire department or an emergency services district.
39+ SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
