88 AN ACT
99 relating to the duties of the Texas Maternal Mortality and
1010 Morbidity Review Committee.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 34.005, Health and Safety Code, is
1313 amended to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 34.005. DUTIES OF REVIEW COMMITTEE. The review
1515 committee shall annually, using data from the preceding year:
1616 (1) study and review:
1717 (A) cases of pregnancy-related deaths;
1818 (B) trends, rates, and [or] disparities in
1919 pregnancy-related deaths and severe maternal morbidity;
2020 (C) health conditions and factors that
2121 disproportionately affect the most at-risk population as
2222 determined in the joint biennial report required under Section
2323 34.015; and
2424 (D) best practices and programs operating in
2525 other states that have reduced rates of pregnancy-related deaths;
2626 (2) compare rates of pregnancy-related deaths based on
2727 the socioeconomic status of the mother;
2828 (3) determine the feasibility of the review committee
2929 studying cases of severe maternal morbidity; and
3030 (4) in consultation with the Perinatal Advisory
3131 Council, make recommendations to help reduce the incidence of
3232 pregnancy-related deaths and severe maternal morbidity in this
3333 state.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
