11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 34.005, Health and Safety Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 34.005. DUTIES OF REVIEW COMMITTEE. The review | |
15 | 15 | committee shall annually, using data from the preceding year: | |
16 | 16 | (1) study and review: | |
17 | 17 | (A) cases of pregnancy-related deaths; | |
18 | 18 | (B) trends, rates, and [or] disparities in | |
19 | 19 | pregnancy-related deaths and severe maternal morbidity; | |
20 | 20 | (C) health conditions and factors that | |
21 | 21 | disproportionately affect the most at-risk population as | |
22 | 22 | determined in the joint biennial report required under Section | |
23 | 23 | 34.015; and | |
24 | 24 | (D) best practices and programs operating in | |
25 | 25 | other states that have reduced rates of pregnancy-related deaths; | |
26 | 26 | (2) compare rates of pregnancy-related deaths based on | |
27 | 27 | the socioeconomic status of the mother; | |
28 | 28 | (3) determine the feasibility of the review committee | |
29 | 29 | studying cases of severe maternal morbidity; and | |
30 | 30 | (4) in consultation with the Perinatal Advisory | |
31 | 31 | Council, make recommendations to help reduce the incidence of | |
32 | 32 | pregnancy-related deaths and severe maternal morbidity in this | |
33 | 33 | state. | |
34 | 34 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
