11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Chapter 150, Local Government Code, is amended | |
13 | 13 | by adding Subchapter Z to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | SUBCHAPTER Z. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 150.901. AUTHORITY TO PROHIBIT POLICE OR FIRE | |
16 | 16 | DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES FROM CIRCULATING OR SIGNING CERTAIN | |
17 | 17 | PETITIONS. A municipality may not adopt or enforce a charter | |
18 | 18 | provision, ordinance, policy, or other measure that prohibits an | |
19 | 19 | employee of the municipality's police or fire department from | |
20 | 20 | circulating or signing a petition authorized by Chapter 142, 143, | |
21 | 21 | or 174. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
