77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the establishment of a grant program to assist law
1010 enforcement agencies in collecting DNA samples from defendants
1111 arrested for a felony offense.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
1414 amended by adding Section 411.1472 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 411.1472. DNA SAMPLE COLLECTION GRANT PROGRAM. (a)
1616 From money appropriated or otherwise available for the purpose, the
1717 department shall establish and implement a grant program to assist
1818 law enforcement agencies in taking a DNA sample when booking a
1919 defendant arrested for a felony as required by Section 411.1471.
2020 (b) The department shall adopt rules necessary to implement
2121 this section.
2222 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
2323 of this Act, the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas
2424 shall establish the grant program required under Section 411.1472,
2525 Government Code, as added by this Act.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
