12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | |
14 | 14 | amended by adding Section 411.1472 to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 411.1472. DNA SAMPLE COLLECTION GRANT PROGRAM. (a) | |
16 | 16 | From money appropriated or otherwise available for the purpose, the | |
17 | 17 | department shall establish and implement a grant program to assist | |
18 | 18 | law enforcement agencies in taking a DNA sample when booking a | |
19 | 19 | defendant arrested for a felony as required by Section 411.1471. | |
20 | 20 | (b) The department shall adopt rules necessary to implement | |
21 | 21 | this section. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
23 | 23 | of this Act, the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas | |
24 | 24 | shall establish the grant program required under Section 411.1472, | |
25 | 25 | Government Code, as added by this Act. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
