| 9 | 9 | | relating to the development of a standard method of computing a |

| 10 | 10 | | student's high school grade point average. |

| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Sections 28.0252(a) and (b), Education Code, are |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) The commissioner shall [may] develop a standard method |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of computing a student's high school grade point average that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provides for additional weight to be given to each honors course, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | advanced placement course, international baccalaureate course, or |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | dual credit course completed by a student. The method must provide |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for an equal amount of additional weight to be given to an advanced |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | placement course, an international baccalaureate course, and a dual |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | credit course. |

| 22 | 22 | | (b) A [If the commissioner develops a standard method under |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | this section, a] school district shall use the standard method |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | developed by the commissioner under Subsection (a) to compute a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | student's high school grade point average. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of this Act, the commissioner of education shall develop a standard |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | method of computing a student's high school grade point average as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | required by Section 28.0252(a), Education Code, as amended by this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
