| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 521.002, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 13 | 13 | to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 521.002. CONVENIENCE TO PUBLIC. (a) The department | |
| 15 | 15 | shall implement its duties under this chapter in the manner that | |
| 16 | 16 | provides the greatest convenience to the public. | |
| 17 | 17 | (b) If a person who is otherwise eligible for the issuance | |
| 18 | 18 | of an original, renewal, corrected, or duplicate driver's license | |
| 19 | 19 | under this chapter applies in person at a driver's license office, | |
| 20 | 20 | the department shall issue the license at the time of application. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 521.002(b), | |
| 22 | 22 | Transportation Code, as added by this Act, the Department of Public | |
| 23 | 23 | Safety is not required to comply with that section before January 1, | |
| 24 | 24 | 2026. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
