10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | |
12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 28.0028 to read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 28.0028. PROHIBITED USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE | |
14 | 14 | TECHNOLOGY. A school district or open-enrollment charter school | |
15 | 15 | may not use artificial intelligence technology to: | |
16 | 16 | (1) provide instruction to students; or | |
17 | 17 | (2) replace or supplement a teacher's role in | |
18 | 18 | providing instruction or interacting with students in a course of | |
19 | 19 | instruction. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
21 | 21 | school year. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
