| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 13 | 13 | to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section | |
| 15 | 15 | 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has | |
| 16 | 16 | concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) family law cases and proceedings; [and] | |
| 18 | 18 | (2) civil cases; and | |
| 19 | 19 | (3) criminal cases for an offense punishable as a | |
| 20 | 20 | state jail felony [in which the matter in controversy does not | |
| 21 | 21 | exceed $750,000, excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages | |
| 22 | 22 | and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs, as alleged on the page | |
| 23 | 23 | of the petition]. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, as amended | |
| 25 | 25 | by this Act, applies only to an action filed in a county court at law | |
| 26 | 26 | in Hidalgo County on or after the effective date of this Act. An | |
| 27 | 27 | action filed in a county court at law in Hidalgo County before the | |
| 28 | 28 | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the | |
| 29 | 29 | date the action was filed, and the former law is continued in effect | |
| 30 | 30 | for that purpose. | |
| 31 | 31 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
