77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the jurisdiction of the county courts at law in Hidalgo
1010 County.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section
1515 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has
1616 concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in:
1717 (1) family law cases and proceedings; [and]
1818 (2) civil cases; and
1919 (3) criminal cases for an offense punishable as a
2020 state jail felony [in which the matter in controversy does not
2121 exceed $750,000, excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages
2222 and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs, as alleged on the page
2323 of the petition].
2424 SECTION 2. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, as amended
2525 by this Act, applies only to an action filed in a county court at law
2626 in Hidalgo County on or after the effective date of this Act. An
2727 action filed in a county court at law in Hidalgo County before the
2828 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
2929 date the action was filed, and the former law is continued in effect
3030 for that purpose.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
