9 | 9 | | relating to acceptable forms of photo identification for the |

10 | 10 | | purposes of voting. |

11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 63.0101(a), Election Code, is amended to |
---|
13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (a) The following documentation is an acceptable form of |
---|
15 | 15 | | photo identification under this chapter: |
---|
16 | 16 | | (1) a driver's license, not including a driver's |
---|
17 | 17 | | license with an expiration provided by Section 521.271(a-2), (a-3), |
---|
18 | 18 | | or (a-4) or Section 521.2711(c), Transportation Code, an election |
---|
19 | 19 | | identification certificate, or a personal identification card |
---|
20 | 20 | | issued to the person by the Department of Public Safety that has not |
---|
21 | 21 | | expired or that expired no earlier than four years before the date |
---|
22 | 22 | | of presentation; |
---|
23 | 23 | | (2) a United States military identification card that |
---|
24 | 24 | | contains the person's photograph that has not expired or that |
---|
25 | 25 | | expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation; |
---|
26 | 26 | | (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to |
---|
27 | 27 | | the person that contains the person's photograph; |
---|
28 | 28 | | (4) a United States passport book or card issued to the |
---|
29 | 29 | | person that has not expired or that expired no earlier than four |
---|
30 | 30 | | years before the date of presentation; or |
---|
31 | 31 | | (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the person |
---|
32 | 32 | | by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that |
---|
33 | 33 | | expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation. |
---|
34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
35 | 35 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
36 | 36 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
37 | 37 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
38 | 38 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
