77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the vote required to approve the issuance of general
1010 obligation bonds by a political subdivision.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Chapter 1253, Government Code, is amended by
1313 adding Section 1253.004 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 1253.004. SUPERMAJORITY VOTE OF VOTERS REQUIRED TO
1515 APPROVE GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS. Notwithstanding any other law, a
1616 political subdivision may not issue general obligation bonds unless
1717 at least 60 percent of the voters at the election called to
1818 authorize the issuance vote in favor of the issuance.
1919 SECTION 2. Section 1253.004, Government Code, as added by
2020 this Act, applies only to general obligation bonds authorized to be
2121 issued by the governing body of a political subdivision on or after
2222 the effective date of this Act.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
