12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. (a) The Commission on Jail Standards shall | |
14 | 14 | conduct a study to evaluate the living conditions and safety of | |
15 | 15 | persons confined in the Harris County jail. | |
16 | 16 | (b) Not later than December 1, 2026, the Commission on Jail | |
17 | 17 | Standards shall submit to the legislature a written report on the | |
18 | 18 | results of the study and any recommendations for legislative or | |
19 | 19 | other action to improve the living conditions and safety of persons | |
20 | 20 | confined in the Harris County jail. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act expires September 1, 2027. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
