77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to prohibiting school districts from providing student
1010 instruction on Veterans Day.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 25.081(g), Education Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 (g) A school district may not provide student instruction on
1515 Memorial Day or Veterans Day. If a school district would be
1616 required to provide student instruction on Memorial Day or Veterans
1717 Day to compensate for minutes of instruction lost because of school
1818 closures caused by disaster, flood, extreme weather conditions,
1919 fuel curtailment, or another calamity, the commissioner shall
2020 approve the instruction of students for fewer than the number of
2121 minutes required under Subsection (a).
2222 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
2323 school year.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
