77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the payment of fees and costs associated with driver
1010 education and safety courses and driver's license examinations for
1111 certain students.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 521.168, Transportation
1414 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 521.168. PAYMENT OF FEES FOR CERTAIN [FOSTER AND
1616 HOMELESS] CHILDREN AND YOUTHS.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 521.168(a), Transportation Code, is
1818 amended to read as follows:
1919 (a) Unless prohibited under Section 521.4265(c), the Texas
2020 Workforce Commission shall on request pay the fees associated with
2121 meeting a requirement imposed under this subchapter or Chapter
2222 1001, Education Code, for a person who is:
2323 (1) eligible for a driver's license fee exemption
2424 under Section 521.1811; [or]
2525 (2) younger than 26 years of age and:
2626 (A) was in the managing conservatorship of the
2727 Department of Family and Protective Services on the day before the
2828 person's 18th birthday; or
2929 (B) is a homeless child or youth as defined by 42
3030 U.S.C. Section 11434a; or
3131 (3) educationally disadvantaged, as defined by
3232 Section 5.001, Education Code.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
