| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 61, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 61.9630 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 61.9630. STUDY ON POTENTIAL CLINICAL SITE FACILITIES. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (a) In this section: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) "Correctional facility" has the meaning assigned |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by Section 1.07, Penal Code. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) "Federally qualified health center" has the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | meaning assigned by 42 U.S.C. Section 1396d(l)(2)(B). |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (3) "Hospital" has the meaning assigned by Section |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 58A.001. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (4) "State juvenile facility" has the meaning assigned |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | by Article 49.18, Code of Criminal Procedure. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (b) The board shall conduct a study in collaboration with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the Health and Human Services Commission, the Texas Board of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Nursing, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and the Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Juvenile Justice Department regarding the feasibility of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | establishing clinical sites at correctional facilities, state |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | juvenile facilities, hospitals, and federally qualified health |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | centers to provide clinical learning experiences for nursing |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | students. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (c) Not later than December 1, 2026, the board shall submit |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of representatives, and each standing legislative committee with |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | primary jurisdiction over higher education or nursing a written |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | report that includes the results of the study and any |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | recommendations for legislative or other action. |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | (d) This section expires September 1, 2027. |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
