77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to establishing age for purposes of admission into public
1010 schools for certain children of foreign military members.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 25.001, Education Code, is amended by
1313 adding Subsection (c-3) to read as follows:
1414 (c-3) Notwithstanding Subsections (a) and (b), a person
1515 whose parent or guardian is an active-duty member of a foreign
1616 military force stationed in this state may establish the person's
1717 age for purposes of determining eligibility under those subsections
1818 by demonstrating that the person will turn the required age within
1919 the school year for which the person is seeking admission.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
2121 school year.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
