9 | 9 | relating to the inclusion of firearm safety instruction in the | |
10 | 10 | required health curriculum for public school students. | |
11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Subsection (u) to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (u) In addition to any other essential knowledge and skills | |
15 | 15 | the State Board of Education adopts for the health curriculum under | |
16 | 16 | Subsection (a)(2)(B), the board shall adopt for the health | |
17 | 17 | curriculum essential knowledge and skills that address topics | |
18 | 18 | relating to firearm safety that: | |
19 | 19 | (1) focus on accident prevention; | |
20 | 20 | (2) promote the safety and protection of students; and | |
21 | 21 | (3) emphasize how students should respond when | |
22 | 22 | encountering a firearm. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
24 | 24 | school year. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
26 | 26 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
27 | 27 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
28 | 28 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
29 | 29 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
