11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 214.902, Local Government Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Subsection (a-1) and amending Subsection (b) to | |
14 | 14 | read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | (a-1) In addition to the authority provided by Subsection | |
16 | 16 | (a), the governing body of a municipality by ordinance may | |
17 | 17 | establish rent control for persons 65 years of age or older. | |
18 | 18 | (b) The governing body shall continue or discontinue rent | |
19 | 19 | control established under Subsection (a) in the same manner that | |
20 | 20 | the governor continues or discontinues a state of disaster under | |
21 | 21 | Section 418.014, Government Code. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
