| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 1001.1102 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 1001.1102. INFORMATION RELATING TO OPERATING VEHICLE |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | IN CONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE WORK ZONE. (a) The commission by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | rule shall require that information relating to construction or |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | maintenance work zones be included in the curriculum of each driver |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | education course or driving safety course. The curriculum must |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | include: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) the dangers associated with violating traffic laws |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in construction or maintenance work zones; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (2) the penalties under Section 542.404, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Transportation Code, for certain offenses committed in a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | construction or maintenance work zone. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (b) In developing rules under this section, the commission |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | shall consult with the Department of Public Safety. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. (a) Not later than May 1, 2026, the Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt the rules |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | required by Section 1001.1102, Education Code, as added by this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (b) Each driver education course or driving safety course |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | held on or after September 1, 2026, shall include in the course's |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | curriculum the information required by the rules adopted under |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Section 1001.1102, Education Code, as added by this Act. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
