| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 54, Education Code, is | |
| 13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 54.5042 to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 54.5042. TRANSCRIPT FEE PROHIBITED. The governing | |
| 15 | 15 | board of an institution of higher education may not charge a current | |
| 16 | 16 | or former student a fee for the issuance of an official transcript. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with requests for an | |
| 18 | 18 | official transcript submitted to a public institution of higher | |
| 19 | 19 | education on or after the effective date of this Act. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
