| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 311, Health and Safety |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Code, is amended by adding Section 311.006 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 311.006. PUBLIC REPORT OF CHARITY CARE. (a) In this |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | section: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) "Charity care," "financially indigent," and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | "medically indigent" have the meanings assigned by Section 311.031. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) "Public hospital" means a hospital owned, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | operated, or leased by a governmental entity. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) Not later than the 30th day after the last day of each |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | calendar quarter, a public hospital shall prepare and post on the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | hospital's Internet website a report that contains, for the period |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | covered by the report: |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (1) the number of financially indigent and medically |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | indigent patients served by the hospital; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (2) the amount of money spent on charity care by the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | hospital. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 311.006, Health and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Safety Code, as added by this Act, a hospital to which that section |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | applies is not required to prepare and post a report that covers a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | calendar quarter that begins before October 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
