88 AN ACT
99 relating to a requirement that certain hospitals prepare and
1010 publish a quarterly report on charity care provided by those
1111 hospitals.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 311, Health and Safety
1414 Code, is amended by adding Section 311.006 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 311.006. PUBLIC REPORT OF CHARITY CARE. (a) In this
1616 section:
1717 (1) "Charity care," "financially indigent," and
1818 "medically indigent" have the meanings assigned by Section 311.031.
1919 (2) "Public hospital" means a hospital owned,
2020 operated, or leased by a governmental entity.
2121 (b) Not later than the 30th day after the last day of each
2222 calendar quarter, a public hospital shall prepare and post on the
2323 hospital's Internet website a report that contains, for the period
2424 covered by the report:
2525 (1) the number of financially indigent and medically
2626 indigent patients served by the hospital; and
2727 (2) the amount of money spent on charity care by the
2828 hospital.
2929 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 311.006, Health and
3030 Safety Code, as added by this Act, a hospital to which that section
3131 applies is not required to prepare and post a report that covers a
3232 calendar quarter that begins before October 1, 2025.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
