57 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
68 AN ACT
79 relating to the withdrawal of the State of Texas from the Interstate
810 Mining Compact.
911 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. The State of Texas withdraws from the Interstate
1113 Mining Compact under Section 132.002, Natural Resources Code, as
1214 authorized by Article VIII of the compact. As soon as practicable
1315 after the effective date of this Act, the governor shall:
1416 (1) provide written notice of the withdrawal to the
1517 governor of each state that is a party to the compact as provided by
1618 that article; and
1719 (2) publish notice of the withdrawal in the Texas
1820 Register.
1921 SECTION 2. On the first anniversary of the date the governor
2022 publishes notice under Section 1(2) of this Act:
2123 (1) the office of the Interstate Mining Compact
2224 Commissioner for Texas is abolished;
2325 (2) the Texas Mining Council is abolished; and
2426 (3) Chapter 132, Natural Resources Code, is repealed.
2527 SECTION 3. Except as otherwise provided by this Act, this
2628 Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of
2729 all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39,
2830 Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the
2931 vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect
3032 September 1, 2025.
