| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, | |
| 13 | 13 | is amended by adding Section 502.013 to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 502.013. VOLUNTARY DISCLOSURE OF MILITARY STATUS BY | |
| 15 | 15 | REGISTRATION APPLICANT. (a) When a person registers or renews the | |
| 16 | 16 | registration of a motor vehicle under this chapter, the department | |
| 17 | 17 | shall provide the person with the option to indicate whether the | |
| 18 | 18 | person is a member of the United States armed forces. | |
| 19 | 19 | (b) If a person indicates under Subsection (a) that the | |
| 20 | 20 | person is a member of the United States armed forces, the department | |
| 21 | 21 | shall include the person's status as a member of the United States | |
| 22 | 22 | armed forces: | |
| 23 | 23 | (1) in the department's vehicle registration records | |
| 24 | 24 | for the vehicle described by Subsection (a); and | |
| 25 | 25 | (2) with any record information released by the | |
| 26 | 26 | department relating to the department's vehicle registration | |
| 27 | 27 | records for the vehicle described by Subsection (a), including a | |
| 28 | 28 | report issued by the department for the vehicle. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
