| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Article 42A.701(g), Code of Criminal Procedure, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (g) This article does not apply to a defendant convicted of: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) an offense under Sections 49.04-49.08, Penal Code, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | unless the defendant successfully completes a veterans treatment |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | court program under Chapter 124, Government Code; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) an offense the conviction of which requires |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | registration as a sex offender under Chapter 62; or |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (3) a felony described by Article 42A.054. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to a person who is placed on community supervision for an offense |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | committed on or after the effective date of this Act. A person who |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | is placed on community supervision for an offense committed before |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the date the offense was committed, and the former law is continued |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in effect for that purpose. For purposes of this section, an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | offense was committed before the effective date of this Act if any |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | element of the offense occurred before that date. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
