| 9 | 9 | | relating to the terms of members of a board of trustees of a |

| 10 | 10 | | military reservation school district. |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 11.352(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) For each military reservation school district, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | State Board of Education may appoint a board of three or five |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | trustees. Enlisted military personnel and military officers may be |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | appointed to the school board. A majority of the trustees appointed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | for the district must be civilians and all may be civilians. The |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | trustees shall be selected from a list of persons who are qualified |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to serve as members of a school district board of trustees under |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Section 11.061 and who live on or are employed on the military |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | reservation. A person who retires from active duty or civilian |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | service while serving a term as a member of the board of trustees |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | may continue to serve for the remainder of that person's term. The |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | list shall be furnished to the board by the commanding officer of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the military reservation. The trustees appointed serve terms of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | three [two] years. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | affect the entitlement of a member serving on the board of trustees |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of a military reservation school district immediately before the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | effective date of this Act to continue to serve for the remainder of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the member's two year term. As the terms of members expire, the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | State Board of Education shall appoint or reappoint members to |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | serve three year terms in accordance with Section 11.352(b), |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Education Code, as amended by this Act. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
