77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the terms of members of a board of trustees of a
1010 military reservation school district.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 11.352(b), Education Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 (b) For each military reservation school district, the
1515 State Board of Education may appoint a board of three or five
1616 trustees. Enlisted military personnel and military officers may be
1717 appointed to the school board. A majority of the trustees appointed
1818 for the district must be civilians and all may be civilians. The
1919 trustees shall be selected from a list of persons who are qualified
2020 to serve as members of a school district board of trustees under
2121 Section 11.061 and who live on or are employed on the military
2222 reservation. A person who retires from active duty or civilian
2323 service while serving a term as a member of the board of trustees
2424 may continue to serve for the remainder of that person's term. The
2525 list shall be furnished to the board by the commanding officer of
2626 the military reservation. The trustees appointed serve terms of
2727 three [two] years.
2828 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not
2929 affect the entitlement of a member serving on the board of trustees
3030 of a military reservation school district immediately before the
3131 effective date of this Act to continue to serve for the remainder of
3232 the member's two year term. As the terms of members expire, the
3333 State Board of Education shall appoint or reappoint members to
3434 serve three year terms in accordance with Section 11.352(b),
3535 Education Code, as amended by this Act.
3636 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
