| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Section 467.021(b), Government Code, is amended | |
| 14 | 14 | to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) In making appointments to the commission, the governor | |
| 16 | 16 | shall strive to achieve representation by all the population groups | |
| 17 | 17 | of the state with regard to economic status and [,] sex[, race, and | |
| 18 | 18 | ethnicity]. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 651.009(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 20 | 20 | to read as follows: | |
| 21 | 21 | (a) In each case in which the governing body of a state | |
| 22 | 22 | board, commission, or other state agency that has statewide | |
| 23 | 23 | jurisdiction is appointed by the governor or another appointing | |
| 24 | 24 | authority, the governor or appointing authority shall ensure that, | |
| 25 | 25 | to the extent possible, the membership of the governing body | |
| 26 | 26 | reflects the [racial, ethnic, and] geographic diversity of this | |
| 27 | 27 | state. | |
| 28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
