| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 49, Education Code, is | |
| 14 | 14 | amended by adding Section 49.1573 to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | Sec. 49.1573. CREDIT FOR WINDSTORM AND HAIL INSURANCE | |
| 16 | 16 | COSTS. (a) This section applies only to a school district that is | |
| 17 | 17 | located in a first tier coastal county or second tier coastal | |
| 18 | 18 | county, as those terms are defined by Section 2210.003, Insurance | |
| 19 | 19 | Code. | |
| 20 | 20 | (b) The total amount required under Section 49.153 for a | |
| 21 | 21 | school district to which this section applies to purchase | |
| 22 | 22 | attendance credit under this subchapter for any school year is | |
| 23 | 23 | reduced by an amount equal to the amount of money spent by the | |
| 24 | 24 | district in the preceding school year to pay for the cost of | |
| 25 | 25 | windstorm and hail insurance. | |
| 26 | 26 | (c) A reduction under Subsection (b) shall be made after | |
| 27 | 27 | making any reduction to which the district is entitled under | |
| 28 | 28 | Section 49.157 or another provision of this chapter. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
