77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the composition of the board of directors of the Texas
1010 School Safety Center.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Sections 37.203(a) and (b), Education Code, are
1313 amended to read as follows:
1414 (a) The center is advised by a board of directors composed
1515 of:
1616 (1) the attorney general, or the attorney general's
1717 designee;
1818 (2) the commissioner, or the commissioner's designee;
1919 (3) the executive director of the Texas Juvenile
2020 Justice Department, or the executive director's designee;
2121 (4) the commissioner of the Department of State Health
2222 Services, or the commissioner's designee;
2323 (5) the commissioner of higher education, or the
2424 commissioner's designee; and
2525 (6) the following members appointed by the governor
2626 with the advice and consent of the senate:
2727 (A) a juvenile court judge;
2828 (B) a member of a school district's board of
2929 trustees;
3030 (C) an administrator of a public primary school;
3131 (D) an administrator of a public secondary
3232 school;
3333 (E) a member of the state parent-teacher
3434 association;
3535 (F) a teacher from a public primary or secondary
3636 school;
3737 (G) a public school superintendent who is a
3838 member of the Texas Association of School Administrators;
3939 (H) a school district police officer or a peace
4040 officer whose primary duty consists of working in a public school;
4141 (I) a professional architect who is registered in
4242 this state and a member of the Texas Society of Architects;
4343 (J) an administrator of a public junior college;
4444 and
4545 (K) [(J)] three members of the public.
4646 (b) Members of the board appointed under Subsection (a)(6)
4747 serve staggered two-year terms, with the terms of the members
4848 described by Subsections (a)(6)(A)-(F) expiring on February 1 of
4949 each odd-numbered year and the terms of the members described by
5050 Subsections (a)(6)(G)-(K)[(J)] expiring on February 1 of each
5151 even-numbered year. A member may serve more than one term.
5252 SECTION 2. Not later than February 1, 2026, the governor
5353 shall appoint the new member to the board of directors of the Texas
5454 School Safety Center as required by Section 37.203(a)(6)(J),
5555 Education Code, as amended by this Act.
5656 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
