Fiscal Analysis

The bill would require the commissioner of education to establish a grant program to assist eligible organizations to provide extracurricular community education programs that promote academic learning and enrichment. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) would be required to provide program development assistance to grant recipients, including professional development for program leaders and guidance on educational strategies consistent with instructional best practices.

Methodology

TEA estimates that the cost of the Extracurricular Community Education Grant Program would be $3.4 million annually to provide 20 grants, with each award expected to serve approximately 575 public school students. This analysis assumes TEA could implement provisions of the bill with 1.0 FTE at a cost of $0.1 million annually.
