77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the designation of certain election days as state
1010 holidays.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1515 (1) the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes Day,"
1616 in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate
1717 heroes;
1818 (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day";
1919 (3) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2020 (4) the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas,"
2121 in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2222 (5) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson
2323 Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson;
2424 (6) the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2525 (7) the 24th day of December; [and]
2626 (8) the 26th day of December; and
2727 (9) the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
2828 November of an even-numbered year.
2929 SECTION 2. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3030 read as follows:
3131 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3232 only the following days:
3333 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3434 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3535 through (6) and Section 662.003(b)(9).
3636 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
