77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to an exemption from sales and use taxes for certain
1010 personal and household supplies.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 151, Tax Code, is amended
1313 by adding Section 151.3142 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 151.3142. CERTAIN PERSONAL AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. The
1515 following items are exempted from the taxes imposed by this
1616 chapter:
1717 (1) toilet paper;
1818 (2) contact lens solution;
1919 (3) reading glasses;
2020 (4) dental floss;
2121 (5) laundry detergent;
2222 (6) dish soap;
2323 (7) hand soap; and
2424 (8) antiperspirant or deodorant.
2525 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act do not affect
2626 tax liability accruing before the effective date of this Act. That
2727 liability continues in effect as if this Act had not been enacted,
2828 and the former law is continued in effect for the collection of
2929 taxes due and for civil and criminal enforcement of the liability
3030 for those taxes.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
