77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the location of and the amount of certain revenue that
1010 may be used for state veterans cemeteries.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Sections 164.005(f) and (h), Natural Resources
1313 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1414 (f) The board, the chairman of the Texas Veterans
1515 Commission, and two representatives of the veterans community
1616 selected by the chairman of the Texas Veterans Commission shall:
1717 (1) establish the guidelines for determining:
1818 (A) the location and size of veterans cemeteries;
1919 and
2020 (B) the eligibility for burial in a veterans
2121 cemetery; and
2222 (2) select [up to seven] locations across the state
2323 for veterans cemeteries.
2424 (h) The board may use [Of the] funds available in the
2525 veterans' land fund, the veterans' housing assistance fund, and the
2626 veterans' housing assistance fund II that may be used for veterans
2727 cemeteries[, the board may spend not more than $7 million each
2828 fiscal year] to plan and design, operate, maintain, enlarge, or
2929 improve veterans cemeteries. The board may not use funds from the
3030 veterans' land fund, the veterans' housing assistance fund, or the
3131 veterans' housing assistance fund II to acquire land to be used for
3232 a veterans cemetery.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
