10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 92, Property Code, is | |
12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 92.027 to read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 92.027. PET DEPOSITS OR FEES. If a lease allows a | |
14 | 14 | tenant to have a pet on the premises, the landlord may collect from | |
15 | 15 | the tenant a one-time refundable pet deposit at the initiation of | |
16 | 16 | the lease or a monthly fee for the pet that does not exceed $20, but | |
17 | 17 | not both. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Section 92.027, Property Code, as added by this | |
19 | 19 | Act, applies only to a lease entered into or renewed on or after the | |
20 | 20 | effective date of this Act. A lease entered into or renewed before | |
21 | 21 | the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed | |
22 | 22 | immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is | |
23 | 23 | continued in effect for that purpose. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
