| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 505, Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended by adding Section 505.355 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 505.355. ALTERNATIVES TO EXAMINATION. (a) The |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | executive council by rule shall establish alternative methods, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | other than an examination, of examining the competency of an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | applicant for a baccalaureate or master social worker license who |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | has failed the applicable examination two or more times. The rules |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | adopted under this subsection must set a fee for the administration |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the alternative method of examining competency. In adopting the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | rules, the executive council shall consider the recommendations of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the work group established under Subsection (b). |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (b) The executive council shall establish a work group to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | solicit input from stakeholders and make recommendations on the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | development and implementation of alternative methods under |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Subsection (a). The work group must consist of persons with a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | background in social work. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2026, the Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Behavioral Health Executive Council shall adopt the rules required |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | by Section 505.355, Occupations Code, as added by this Act. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
