88 AN ACT
99 relating to the licensing of certain social workers; imposing a
1010 fee.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 505, Occupations Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 505.355 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 505.355. ALTERNATIVES TO EXAMINATION. (a) The
1515 executive council by rule shall establish alternative methods,
1616 other than an examination, of examining the competency of an
1717 applicant for a baccalaureate or master social worker license who
1818 has failed the applicable examination two or more times. The rules
1919 adopted under this subsection must set a fee for the administration
2020 of the alternative method of examining competency. In adopting the
2121 rules, the executive council shall consider the recommendations of
2222 the work group established under Subsection (b).
2323 (b) The executive council shall establish a work group to
2424 solicit input from stakeholders and make recommendations on the
2525 development and implementation of alternative methods under
2626 Subsection (a). The work group must consist of persons with a
2727 background in social work.
2828 SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2026, the Texas
2929 Behavioral Health Executive Council shall adopt the rules required
3030 by Section 505.355, Occupations Code, as added by this Act.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
