| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is | |
| 13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 253.008. CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS BY NONCITIZENS | |
| 15 | 15 | PROHIBITED. A person who is not a United States citizen may not | |
| 16 | 16 | knowingly make a campaign contribution to a candidate or political | |
| 17 | 17 | committee. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Section 253.008, Election Code, as added by this | |
| 19 | 19 | Act, applies only to a campaign contribution made on or after the | |
| 20 | 20 | effective date of this Act. A campaign contribution made before the | |
| 21 | 21 | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the | |
| 22 | 22 | date the contribution was made, and the former law is continued in | |
| 23 | 23 | effect for that purpose. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
