| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 71.004(b), Civil Practice & Remedies | |
| 11 | 11 | Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) The surviving spouse, children, siblings, and parents | |
| 13 | 13 | of the deceased may bring the action or one or more of those | |
| 14 | 14 | individuals may bring the action for the benefit of all. | |
| 15 | 15 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to a | |
| 16 | 16 | cause of action filed on or after the effective date. An action | |
| 17 | 17 | filed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law | |
| 18 | 18 | in effect on the date the action was filed, and the former law is | |
| 19 | 19 | continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
