11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 253, Election Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 253.0342 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 253.0342. RESTRICTION ON EXPENDITURES DURING AND | |
15 | 15 | FOLLOWING REGULAR LEGISLATIVE SESSION. (a) This section applies | |
16 | 16 | only to: | |
17 | 17 | (1) a candidate; | |
18 | 18 | (2) an officeholder; | |
19 | 19 | (3) a specific-purpose committee for supporting or | |
20 | 20 | opposing a candidate; | |
21 | 21 | (4) a group of persons organized for the principal | |
22 | 22 | purpose of accepting political contributions or making political | |
23 | 23 | expenditures; and | |
24 | 24 | (5) a committee, club, association, or other group of | |
25 | 25 | persons that accepts political contributions or makes political | |
26 | 26 | expenditures for the purpose of influencing an election in this | |
27 | 27 | state. | |
28 | 28 | (b) During the period described by Section 253.034(a), a | |
29 | 29 | person to whom this section applies may not make expenditures that | |
30 | 30 | either support or oppose a statewide officeholder or a member of the | |
31 | 31 | legislature. | |
32 | 32 | (c) A person commits an offense if the person violates this | |
33 | 33 | section. An offense under this subsection is a Class A misdemeanor. | |
34 | 34 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
