| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 58, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Section 58.011 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 58.011. STATEWIDE PEDIATRIC SUBSPECIALTY |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | PRECEPTORSHIP PROGRAM. (a) In this section: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) "Medical school" has the meaning assigned by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Section 61.501(1), except that the term also includes the school of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | osteopathic medicine at the University of the Incarnate Word. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) "Pediatric subspecialty" means a pediatric |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | medical subspecialty certification offered by a member board of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Association. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (b) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board may |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contract with one or more organizations to operate a statewide |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | pediatric subspecialty preceptorship program for medical students |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | enrolled in Texas medical schools. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (c) An organization eligible to receive funds under this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | section must: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (1) qualify for exemption from federal income tax |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | under Section 501, Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (26 U.S.C. Section |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 501); or |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (2) be operated by a state accredited medical school. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (d) Students eligible to participate in the preceptorship |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | program under this section must indicate an interest in a career in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a pediatric subspecialty. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | academic year. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
|---|
