10 | 10 | recognize service to the people of Texas. | |
11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 11, Government Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Chapter 3108 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | CHAPTER 3108. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 3108.001. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD. (a) The | |
16 | 16 | Governor's Medal of Service award may be awarded to a resident of | |
17 | 17 | this state who: | |
18 | 18 | (1) honorably retired from a position of public | |
19 | 19 | service in state or local government; | |
20 | 20 | (2) contributed to the residents of this state in an | |
21 | 21 | extraordinary way through the individual's work in the private | |
22 | 22 | sector; or | |
23 | 23 | (3) contributed to the residents of this state in an | |
24 | 24 | extraordinary way as a member of the Texas Legislature. | |
25 | 25 | (b) The governor may, at the governor's discretion, award | |
26 | 26 | not more than two Governor's Medal of Service awards each year. | |
27 | 27 | Sec. 3108.002. GIFTS. The office of the governor may | |
28 | 28 | solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations from any public or | |
29 | 29 | private source for any expenses related to the administration of | |
30 | 30 | the Governor's Medal of Service award, including establishing the | |
31 | 31 | award. | |
32 | 32 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
