77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to creating the Governor's Medal of Service award to
1010 recognize service to the people of Texas.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 11, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Chapter 3108 to read as follows:
1414 CHAPTER 3108. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD
1515 Sec. 3108.001. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD. (a) The
1616 Governor's Medal of Service award may be awarded to a resident of
1717 this state who:
1818 (1) honorably retired from a position of public
1919 service in state or local government;
2020 (2) contributed to the residents of this state in an
2121 extraordinary way through the individual's work in the private
2222 sector; or
2323 (3) contributed to the residents of this state in an
2424 extraordinary way as a member of the Texas Legislature.
2525 (b) The governor may, at the governor's discretion, award
2626 not more than two Governor's Medal of Service awards each year.
2727 Sec. 3108.002. GIFTS. The office of the governor may
2828 solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations from any public or
2929 private source for any expenses related to the administration of
3030 the Governor's Medal of Service award, including establishing the
3131 award.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
