77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to an elective course on mindfulness for middle school,
1010 junior high school, and high school students.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 28.0115 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 28.0115. ELECTIVE COURSE ON MINDFULNESS. (a) A school
1515 district or open-enrollment charter school shall offer an elective
1616 course on mindfulness to students in middle school, junior high
1717 school, and high school. The course provided to high school
1818 students must meet the requirements for an elective credit under
1919 Section 28.025.
2020 (b) A course under this section must include instruction on
2121 techniques to:
2222 (1) enhance focus and concentration;
2323 (2) manage stress;
2424 (3) improve emotional regulation; and
2525 (4) cultivate increased self-awareness and
2626 compassion.
2727 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2026-2027
2828 school year.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
