57 AN ACT
68 relating to a prohibition on the acceptance of certain compensation
79 or employment by current or former members of the legislature for
810 work involving bond services; creating a criminal offense.
911 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 572, Government Code, is
1113 amended by adding Section 572.062 to read as follows:
1214 Sec. 572.062. CERTAIN COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYMENT BY
1315 CURRENT OR FORMER MEMBERS OF LEGISLATURE PROVIDING BOND SERVICES
1416 PROHIBITED. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, an individual may
1517 not accept compensation or employment from a person that receives
1618 money from any proceeds in connection with the issuance of bonds if
1719 the individual provided financial advice, bond counsel, bond
1820 underwriting, or another professional service associated with the
1921 issuance of the bonds while the individual was a member of the
2022 legislature.
2123 (b) The prohibition under Subsection (a) applies until the
2224 10th anniversary of the later of:
2325 (1) the date the bonds are issued; or
2426 (2) the date the individual ceases to be a member of
2527 the legislature.
2628 (c) A person commits an offense if the person violates this
2729 section. An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
2830 SECTION 2. Section 572.062, Government Code, as added by
2931 this Act, applies only to compensation paid or employment that
3032 commences on or after the effective date of this Act. Compensation
3133 that is paid or employment that commences before the effective date
3234 of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the
3335 compensation was paid or the employment commenced, and the former
3436 law is continued in effect for that purpose.
3537 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
