| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 87.027, Election Code, is amended by | |
| 13 | 13 | amending Subsection (a-1) and adding Subsection (a-2) to read as | |
| 14 | 14 | follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | (a-1) A signature verification committee shall be appointed | |
| 16 | 16 | in the general election for state and county officers on submission | |
| 17 | 17 | to the early voting clerk of a written request for the committee | |
| 18 | 18 | by: | |
| 19 | 19 | (1) for a county with a population of less than | |
| 20 | 20 | 600,000, at least 15 registered voters of the county; or | |
| 21 | 21 | (2) for a county with a population of 600,000 or more, | |
| 22 | 22 | at least 250 registered voters of the county. | |
| 23 | 23 | (a-2) A [The] request submitted under Subsection (a-1) must | |
| 24 | 24 | be submitted not later than the preceding October 1, and a request | |
| 25 | 25 | submitted by mail is considered to be submitted at the time of its | |
| 26 | 26 | receipt by the clerk. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
