6 | 8 | | relating to a study by the Texas Education Agency regarding |

7 | 9 | | participation in certain career and technology programs. |

8 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 11 | | SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "agency" means the |
---|
10 | 12 | | Texas Education Agency. |
---|
11 | 13 | | SECTION 2. STUDY REGARDING CERTAIN CAREER PATHWAYS AND |
---|
12 | 14 | | OFFERINGS BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS. (a) The agency shall conduct a |
---|
13 | 15 | | study regarding the participation of students in applicable courses |
---|
14 | 16 | | and offerings related to the following: |
---|
15 | 17 | | (1) Mobility & Transportation; |
---|
16 | 18 | | (2) Healthcare; |
---|
17 | 19 | | (3) Skilled Trades and Construction; |
---|
18 | 20 | | (4) Manufacturing; and |
---|
19 | 21 | | (5) Information Technology. |
---|
20 | 22 | | (b) The study must identify: |
---|
21 | 23 | | (1) the demand for each above-listed industry at |
---|
22 | 24 | | entry-level positions according to each region of the state. |
---|
23 | 25 | | (2) how many students are currently enrolled in the |
---|
24 | 26 | | related course offerings listed in (a) and what, if any, |
---|
25 | 27 | | industry-based certifications were pursued by the students; |
---|
26 | 28 | | (3) how many students completed industry-based |
---|
27 | 29 | | certifications in the fields listed in (a); |
---|
28 | 30 | | (4) how many and which school districts offer programs |
---|
29 | 31 | | in the fields listed in (a); |
---|
30 | 32 | | (5) whether students entered the workforce in the |
---|
31 | 33 | | field of certification listed above or attended an institution of |
---|
32 | 34 | | higher education and where the specific student works or continues |
---|
33 | 35 | | their field of study at an institution of higher education; |
---|
34 | 36 | | (6) whether a student who enrolled in a field of study |
---|
35 | 37 | | listed in (a) after high school graduation, pursued a related |
---|
36 | 38 | | career in the job market or a relevant program at an institution of |
---|
37 | 39 | | higher education; |
---|
38 | 40 | | (7) the participation of students in middle school and |
---|
39 | 41 | | high school in career exploration pathways that are available in |
---|
40 | 42 | | their school district, if offered by the district; |
---|
41 | 43 | | (8) the list of postsecondary institutions for each |
---|
42 | 44 | | region of the state who offer fields of study related to those |
---|
43 | 45 | | listed in (a); |
---|
44 | 46 | | (9) the amount of funding necessary to ensure school |
---|
45 | 47 | | districts, the agency, and other applicable entities to continue to |
---|
46 | 48 | | collect information related to postsecondary and job market data. |
---|
47 | 49 | | SECTION 3. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December |
---|
48 | 50 | | 1, 2026, the agency shall submit a report to the legislature that |
---|
49 | 51 | | includes the results of the study conducted under Section 2 of this |
---|
50 | 52 | | Act and any associated recommendations. |
---|
51 | 53 | | SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires September 1, 2027. |
---|
52 | 54 | | SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
---|
53 | 55 | | immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
---|
54 | 56 | | elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
---|
55 | 57 | | Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
---|
56 | 58 | | immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
