77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the creation of the office of district attorney for the
1010 365th Judicial District and the duties of the district attorney for
1111 the 293rd Judicial District.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 43.177, Government Code, is amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 Sec. 43.177. 293RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT. (a) The voters of
1616 Dimmit and Zavala Counties [the 293rd Judicial District] elect a
1717 district attorney who represents the state in all matters in the
1818 [cases before that] district courts having jurisdiction in those
1919 counties [court].
2020 (b) The commissioners court of Dimmit or Zavala County [one
2121 or more of the counties comprising the district] may supplement the
2222 state salary of the district attorney. The commissioners court of
2323 each county may set the amount of supplemental compensation paid by
2424 that county.
2525 SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 43, Government Code, is
2626 amended by adding Section 43.1812 to read as follows:
2727 Sec. 43.1812. 365TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT. (a) The voters of
2828 Maverick County elect a district attorney for the 365th Judicial
2929 District who represents the state in all civil and criminal matters
3030 that arise in the district court only in Maverick County.
3131 (b) The district attorney of the 365th Judicial District
3232 also represents the state in all criminal and civil matters that
3333 arise in the 293rd Judicial District in Maverick County.
3434 SECTION 3. The office of district attorney for the 365th
3535 Judicial District is created on the effective date of this Act.
3636 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
