9 | 9 | | relating to the investigation and reporting of certain motor |

10 | 10 | | vehicle collisions. |

11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 550.041(a), Transportation Code, is |
---|
13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (a) A peace officer who is notified of a motor vehicle |
---|
15 | 15 | | collision resulting in injury to or death of a person or [property] |
---|
16 | 16 | | damage to a motor vehicle to the [an apparent] extent that the |
---|
17 | 17 | | vehicle cannot be normally and safely driven [of at least $1,000] |
---|
18 | 18 | | may investigate the collision and file justifiable charges relating |
---|
19 | 19 | | to the collision without regard to whether the collision occurred |
---|
20 | 20 | | on property to which this chapter applies. |
---|
21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Section 550.062(a), Transportation Code, is |
---|
22 | 22 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
23 | 23 | | (a) A law enforcement officer who in the regular course of |
---|
24 | 24 | | duty investigates a motor vehicle collision shall make a written |
---|
25 | 25 | | report of the collision if the collision resulted in injury to or |
---|
26 | 26 | | the death of a person or damage to a motor vehicle to the [property |
---|
27 | 27 | | of any one person to the apparent] extent that the vehicle cannot be |
---|
28 | 28 | | normally and safely driven [of $1,000 or more]. |
---|
29 | 29 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
---|
30 | 30 | | to a motor vehicle accident occurring on or after the effective date |
---|
31 | 31 | | of this Act. A motor vehicle accident occurring before the |
---|
32 | 32 | | effective date of this Act is covered by the law in effect on the |
---|
33 | 33 | | date the accident occurred, and the former law is continued in |
---|
34 | 34 | | effect for that purpose. |
---|
35 | 35 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
