12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 82.036, Government Code, is amended to |
---|
14 | 14 | | read as follows: |

15 | 15 | | Sec. 82.036. FOREIGN ATTORNEYS. (a) Subject to Subsection |
---|
16 | 16 | | (b), the [The] supreme court shall make such rules and regulations |
---|
17 | 17 | | as to admitting attorneys from other jurisdictions to practice law |
---|
18 | 18 | | in this state as it shall deem proper and just. All such attorneys |
---|
19 | 19 | | shall be required to furnish satisfactory proof as to good moral |
---|
20 | 20 | | character. |
---|
21 | 21 | | (b) The Board of Law Examiners shall process an application |
---|
22 | 22 | | for admission to practice law in this state without examination for |
---|
23 | 23 | | an attorney licensed to practice law in another state of the United |
---|
24 | 24 | | States not later than the 100th day after the date the attorney |
---|
25 | 25 | | files the application with the board. |
---|
26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
---|
27 | 27 | | to an application for admission to practice law in this state |
---|
28 | 28 | | without examination filed with the Board of Law Examiners on or |
---|
29 | 29 | | after the effective date of this Act. An application for admission |
---|
30 | 30 | | to practice law in this state without examination filed before the |
---|
31 | 31 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect the date |
---|
32 | 32 | | the application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect |
---|
33 | 33 | | for that purpose. |
---|
34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
