77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the application processing time for admission to
1010 practice law in this state without examination for an attorney
1111 licensed to practice law in another state.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 82.036, Government Code, is amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 Sec. 82.036. FOREIGN ATTORNEYS. (a) Subject to Subsection
1616 (b), the [The] supreme court shall make such rules and regulations
1717 as to admitting attorneys from other jurisdictions to practice law
1818 in this state as it shall deem proper and just. All such attorneys
1919 shall be required to furnish satisfactory proof as to good moral
2020 character.
2121 (b) The Board of Law Examiners shall process an application
2222 for admission to practice law in this state without examination for
2323 an attorney licensed to practice law in another state of the United
2424 States not later than the 100th day after the date the attorney
2525 files the application with the board.
2626 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2727 to an application for admission to practice law in this state
2828 without examination filed with the Board of Law Examiners on or
2929 after the effective date of this Act. An application for admission
3030 to practice law in this state without examination filed before the
3131 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect the date
3232 the application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect
3333 for that purpose.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
